“This class is geared towards leadership skills for the spouses, and the different topics we will be going over are communication, team-building, group dynamics and conflict resolution,” said Witcher. “This seminar gives spouses the tool kit they need in order to help not only themselves but other spouses that are seeking information.”
The seminar is designed to enhance leadership skills to benefit spouses with team-building, communication, command support team relationships, group dynamics, conflict resolution, personal and operational stress, as well as individual augmentee and global support assignments.
“We give them the resources and knowledge they need to know about the Navy and different programs available to them,” added Witcher. “I want to empower spouses with the right educational tools and support family readiness.”
The seminar helps prepare senior enlisted spouses for the unique leadership and relationship issues involved in representing the command.
Command Master Chief (SS) William J. Mast, chief of the boat, USS Kentucky (SSBN 737) (Blue Crew), welcomed and thanked participants before the seminar began.
“Families can affect mission readiness, and it’s important that Sailors get the right support from their families when they have to be away,” said Mast. “I think this training is vital and excellent. I hope we continue to expand this training for senior leadership spouses and for junior enlisted spouses.”
